We encourage you to foster any large adult dog at Oakland Animal Services and you can view them all at:

Fostering is a wonderful way to give a dog a much needed break from the shelter and to make him or her more adoptable! Potential adopters want to know how a dog acts in a real home and a foster family can help answer their questions! PALS helps support the placement of Oakland Animal Services' larger dogs in foster homes. Fostering involves:

  • Opening your home and heart to a dog for a period of a month or longer.
  • Agreeing to meet potential adopters and bring the dog to adoption events when possible.
  • The ability to adopt the dog should you fall in love! A donation to Friends of Oakland Animal Services is recommended upon adoption to help cover the cost of foster supplies.
  • PALS and/or Oakland Animal Services provides all vet care.
  • PALS can assist with food, a bed, toys and treats if you need them.
  • Before you foster, we would like to know a little bit about your experience with dogs, and if you currently have pets
